A prince of Eswatini has affirmed Biblical values as essential to the growth of his nation. He said those values were at the forefront of recent elections – and called on future MPs to lead their nation with integrity.
His Royal Highness, Prince Masitsela Dlamini, speaking on behalf of the King, opened the 8th African Biblical Leadership Initiative Forum (ABLI) in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland).
He said: ‘The Bible and the values we learn from it are among the essential tools we need for national and continental growth, development and sustainability.’ He hoped those values would guide the next generation of MPs in his country.
‘Integrity’
He told the leaders from across Africa: ‘The nation is honoured to host ABLI. We strongly believe in the values and principles that ABLI endeavours to promote in all African countries. Such values include love, integrity, honesty and accountability.
‘These are the same values and principles we called for during our recently held national elections. Having leaders who will reverently embrace Biblical values will help us cut resources spent on corruption, fraud and malpractice.
‘We hope that candidates who were successful in this recent Parliamentary race will be influenced and guided by this ABLI as they serve in their public offices.
Firm foundation
‘We pray that from this Forum [will emerge] leaders of integrity and character who are grounded on the right foundation. The continent needs the best of leaders.’
And the Prince called on future Eswatini MPs, present at the Forum, to lead their nation with integrity.
The CEO of the Bible Society of Eswatini, Mr Ngcebo Mbuli, said he was ‘delighted’ that ABLI had come to Eswatini. Welcoming new MPs elect who were present at the Forum, he said:
‘As you begin your roles as MPs, remember you are accountable to the people and to Almighty God. If you lead with integrity emanating from the Word of God, you will be the best MPs ever. Please make room for the Bible, it will not mislead you. Lead with integrity of heart and skilful hands.’
