The African Biblical Leadership Initiative (ABLI Forum) got underway in Cameroon with a clear call for leadership that will stir up potential in others to change their nations for good.
Day One of ABLI is the Forum for Youth. Leading the opening devotions, Rev Mrs Ngnintedem of the Evangelical church of Cameroon spoke from John’s Gospel.
She read the story of Jesus healing the paralytic and telling him to take up his mat and walk. There was a clear message in this for Africa today, she said.
‘This conference comes against a backdrop when our countries are bedevilled with poverty, violence and insecurity. Times are difficult. Our future is fragile. We live with fears.
‘But,’ she added, ‘in the midst of all of this, the word of the Lord says stand up and walk. If you allow this word to soak into you, you can overcome the circumstances.
‘Leaders should trust the Word of the Lord, which commands them to rise, get up and walk. Whatever has kept you down, whatever the challenge, trust the word of Christ, which says this morning, “Arise up and walk.” Just take a step and Christ will do the rest. Trust him and God will bless you as you take a stand.’
